I am not a person that has really travelled far around the globe, not by a long chalk and there are a few reasons for this. In my early life, I lived on my own from being 21 and simply couldn’t afford it, I’ve had holidays, but not really been a globetrotter – in fact, here is my travel map to demonstrate!
The furthest I’ve ever been is to America and apart from a couple of trips to places like Benidorm and Tenerife, I am a real travel newbie. When I met Michael, he had our first holiday in Center Parcs in Sherwood Forest, and then soon after we got our dog Peggy and for the next 9 years we just went on holiday in the the UK.
The reason travelling makes me nervous, is basically just a comfort zone thing. Food I don’t know, languages I don’t know and I also know that these are the exact same reasons that people leave their native shores, but with me, I just need to get my head around it.
I am a real homebird and so I actually miss my house when I’m over it for too long. Also, I have IBS which can come on with food I’m unaccustomed to, especially when I am a bit nervous.
However, the good news is I am usually fine once I reach my final destination and fully start to relax. I can’t be the only person in the world the get’s a bit stressed about the whole travel thing?
Do let me know if you’ve had any stressy travel experiences and if you have any amazing techniques for dealing.
